Anxiety and depression are common
In fact, one in every five people is affected at some time in their lives. Anxiety and depression can occur together or separately.
Anxiety can come in all sorts of forms; an irrational fear of flying, intense shyness, panic attacks that seem to come out of the blue, nagging worries that cannot be kept in perspective, obsessions that seem relentless, and intense feelings of anxiety following a traumatic event.
Depression and low mood can be experienced as persistent gloominess, sadness and loneliness. People often feel irritable and guilty. It is hard to make decisions or concentrate. Everything feels like an effort and there is withdrawal from things that were once enjoyed. This can take a toll on self esteem and relationships.
Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) can help
CBT is the most well researched of all the psychological therapies and has been found to be extremely effective at helping people overcome a wide range of difficulties.
I am committed to offering collaborative, evidence based, individualised CBT treatment with the goal of assisting recovery and improving well-being. I offer a safe, friendly, confidential and non-judgemental space for you to explore whatever is troubling you and help you get back on track.
Eating Disorders
If you suffer from an eating disorder, assessment will clarify if CBT is the right approach for you. I am able to treat Binge Eating Disorder, Bulimia Nervosa, and Anorexia Nervosa. Intervention will be based on CBT-T (Ten session treatment) or CBT-E (20-40 session treatment) depending on your identified concerns. Generally speaking, this may require attending regular medical reviews with your GP (in conjunction with seeing me.)
